How to: Craft with the Kids over CNY
HOW TO:
Craft with the Kids this CNY
This Lunar New Year, we recruited the help of My Hong Kong ABC to show us a fun way to keep the tykes busy whilst also celebrating CNY. These super easy eco-friendly crafts can be done at home or on holiday!
STEP 1
Take 2 lai see packets and slit down the side and end to open flat
STEP 2
Cut them lengthwise into approx 2cm strips. You will need about 12.
STEP 3
Punch a hole through the both ends of each strip.
STEP 4
Stack strips together and put a brass tack through both holes. Fan out the strips to make a ball shape.
STEP 5
If using cord, thread through the holes and tie and knot the other side (see pic!) and again fan out to make a ball shape.
STEP 6
Use the flap of your lai see packet to make a tassle. Just make tiny snips up to a 1cm border at the top and then roll up and tape secure.
STEP 7
If using the brass tack method tie thread or elastic around each tack; at the top this will make a loop for hanging; and at at the bottom a loop to hang your tassel. Add beads if you like.
STEP 8
If using cord tie a loop for hanging at the top and thread your tassel at the bottom and tie a knot to secure.
STEP 9
And ta-da! A beautiful handmade recycled paper decoration!
