Meet the Founder: Coco Alexandra Chan, Co-Founder of Voltage PR

Coco is a mother, wife, and successful business owner who is also a passionate and active member of the Retykle community as one of our Ambassador. #WeRetykle

We sat down with Coco and she shared the things that have been instrumental in finding the balance between having a fulfilling family life, and a successful career: recognising that each day may look a little different but by taking time to focus on what’s important and appreciate the people in our lives that champion us makes the world of difference.

Q: Tell us a bit about yourself.

Coco: I’m Coco, a “new-ish” mother to a cheeky 16-month-old girl, Harper. I’ve dedicated 16 years of my career in the field of PR and digital communications and co-founded Voltage PR with my husband 7 years ago. My husband now spearheads the agency while I focus my energies on being a mom and support my private and group clients through soul coaching and healing.

Q: When and how did you discover you had a gift for healing and soul coaching?

Coco: I’ve always been intrigued by the world of mysticism at a young age. I was often found with my head in a witch, crystal, or magic-related book or movie growing up. That part of me took a backseat when I reached 16.

It wasn’t until my health took a downward turn in my mid 20’s that I was reintroduced to the world of healing. From that point on, my love for spirituality and energy work only grew stronger. I read book after book, did course after course, and kept it as a self-practice. It wasn’t until 2017 that I decided to share my gifts publicly. The joy of being able to support and guide others on their path of healing is priceless. I’m so grateful to wake up every day knowing that I’m doing what I love and being in service to others on their own journey.

Q: How do you balance this out with running your own PR firm and being a mother?

Coco: Being a parent, you naturally learn to navigate each day as a creative solutionist, so it’s quite similar to my role as a PR professional. It’s been quite the journey trying to balance my career as well as being a mom. But I’m very lucky to have a support system that allows me time to flow between the different roles I have in life.

The key to the balancing act is asking for help when you need it, delegate as much as you can, and TIME BLOCKING!

Q: What does a typical day look like for you?

Coco: Every day is a bit different now with a toddler. But mainly, I start my day waking up with Harper. When she has her morning meal I use that time to meditate and set intentions for the day so I have a clear vision of what’s important, what must be done by me, and the rest I delegate.

I find that dividing my days up helps with training my monkey mind to be more focused. Every day I spend time with my daughter but on the work front, Mondays are for admin and strategy for the week ahead, and Tuesday through Thursday are for private/group clients. Fridays are for friends and mommy time. Saturday & Sunday is strictly for family only.

Q: What habits/practices have you and your family been carrying out in order to remain balanced during this pandemic?

Coco: Making sure we go out into nature, go explore an island or doing something that allows all of us to connect deeper with each other without the interference of work/technology.

Harper is also highly attuned to aromatherapy, so she picks the oils for each of us daily which is an enjoyable activity for everyone. The blend she picks for us is always what we need! She might’ve been a sorceress in another lifetime, I’m sure of it (haha!).

Q: How do you incorporate green habits into your daily life and teach your daughter about caring for the planet?

Coco: Our home has been chemical-free since 2016 so all the products we use at home are not harmful to the earth and our health. Harper gets to learn about choosing natural products and why they’re a better choice for our family and the environment. When she gets older we will teach her more about recycling and giving back to the community through clean-ups and spending our dollars on plant-friendly brands.

Q: What are your favourite books to read to your daughter about our planet and the environment?

Coco: So many favourites! A few of ours are:

  • Planting a Rainbow by Lois Ehlert
  • Baby Loves Green Energy by Ruth Spiro

Q: What does Retykle mean to you?

Coco: Retykle means our family gets to invest our consumer dollars towards a solution to harmful textile waste that’s been created by the global fashion industry. We want to take part in saving our planet with each purchase and inspire a sustainable lifestyle for future generations.
