How to: Upcycled Night Light
HOW TO:
Upcycled Night Light
The cozy and colourful look of your kid’s bedroom can be topped off with some shimmer and a warm glow.
For this craft we are happy to welcome back one of our Retykle Ambassador’s, @littlecitytales, to show us how to make a night light that only requires the assembling of a couple of everyday things including upcycling your Retykle box!
This DIY night light is not just something fun to make together with your tykes but it is also very pretty to look at. It is a perfect way to boost you and your kid’s creativity.
For this project, you will need:
- Retykle box/cardboard box
- Transparent self-adhesive book wrap
- Cellophane paper*
- Fairy lights
- Ruler and cutter
- Double-sided tape
*Cellophane is derived from natural sources such as wood, while plastic wrap is made from oil. Unlike plastic, cellophane can't be recycled, but it is biodegradable, so it can be composted.
Step 1: Draw & Cut
Cut out a piece of self-adhesive book wrap to fit your box lid. Stick down the double-sided tape, making sure the self-adhesive side is facing the inside of the box.
Cut some cellophane paper into small squares and stick onto the sticky book wrap.
Step 2: Decorating
Cut out a piece of self-adhesive book wrap to fit your box lid. Stick down the double-sided tape, making sure the self-adhesive side is facing the inside of the box.
Cut some cellophane paper into small squares and stick onto the sticky book wrap.
Step 3: Time to Shine
Insert some fairy lights into the box. You could secure the position using some tape. If your lights need to be plugged in, simply thread it through the gaps. Enjoy the light spectrum as a decorative piece or as a night light!
Crafty Tips
- This is a parent-child collaborative project and requires adult support to cut out the cardboard. The child can draw the shapes, cut and stick the cellophane!
